  1. Oklahoma City Ballet brings The Nutcracker Back to Life on the Civic Center Stage

Oklahoma City Philharmonic Performs Live Music

OKLAHOMA CITY—Christmas toys spring to life, sugar plum fairies sparkle, princes and soldiers battle evil kings and little girls dance their dreams as the holiday tradition of The Nutcracker comes alive on the Oklahoma City Civic Center Music Hall stage December 11 th – 13 th and December 18 th – 20th.

“This year’s performances of The Nutcracker will be a vivid explosion of color and dance as we premiere additional new sets and costumes as our commitment to keep this timeless holiday tradition always fresh and ever vibrant,” said Robert Mills, OKC Ballet artistic director.  “Oklahoma City Ballet ignites the imagination through the art of dance. Certainly the children make every performance a new adventure as we dance through the enchantment of the The Nutcracker world.  Our child performers keep the adult dancers literally on their toes!”

The Nutcracker will have the added excitement of live music played by the Oklahoma City Philharmonic from Tchaikovsky’s rich and timeless score. Robert Mills’ all-new version stays true to the original E.T.A Hoffman story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,” that has endured more than 100 years.

The story begins on a magical night when young Clara is presented a magnificent gift – a nutcracker soldier.  Once she falls asleep with her nutcracker prince in her arms the toys come to life.  At midnight a battle rages with the fierce Mouse King.

The story transports Clara, her nutcracker prince and the audience across an international world of snowflakes, sweets and treats until at last she awakes with her nutcracker safely in her arms.

Opening night is December 11th at the Oklahoma Civic Center Music Hall located at 201 N Walker Avenue in downtown Oklahoma City.
