Sleepy Hollow press release
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow Opens Exhilarating
Season for Oklahoma City Ballet
For Immediate Release
October 13, 2009
Oklahoma City, OK—-One of Halloween’s most terrifying and iconic figures—the Headless Horseman, rides onto the stage of the Civic Center Music Hall October 30th and 31st as the Oklahoma City Ballet presents The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. This thrilling new full-length ballet is the Oklahoma premiere of choreographer Alan Hineline’s adaptation of the timeless classic from author Washington Irving.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow turns a picturesque colonial New York village into a scene of macabre and mystery surrounding the meek and superstitious schoolmaster Ichabod Crane. The heart-pounding story, set at the end of the 18th century, begins with Crane’s affections for a young lady, Katrina Van Tassel, and moves quickly to terror when Crane is chased through the fog-shrouded forest by the Headless Horseman. Is the Headless Horseman “Brom Bones” Van Brunt, Katrina’s other suitor, or a ghost? The audience must separate legend from truth in this timeless Halloween tale.
“We are delighted to open our season with The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” said Robert Mills, Artistic Director of the Oklahoma City Ballet. “Alan Hineline is a gifted choreographer, and our talented and impassioned company of dancers will bring this beautiful and frightening classic to life on the stage in an extraordinary production. We are thrilled with our imaginative sets and beautiful costumes. With an original composition by Emmy-award winning composer Lanny Meyers, played live by the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Joel Levine, this will truly be a night to remember.”
