“Future Voices” Blends Variety of Dance Talents for Three Performances in March

“Future Voices brings together some of central Oklahoma’s finest dance professionals in one place at one time to create a splendid, fast-paced, multi-disciplined dance experience,” said Robert Mills, artistic director, Oklahoma City Ballet. The performances will wrap music, dance, costumes and brilliant visuals around some of the best dance minds in Oklahoma.”

Oklahoma City Ballet Announces 2010-2011 Season
OKLAHOMA CITY—The Oklahoma City Ballet today announced its new season for 2010-2011entitled “Momentum in Motion.” The new season will feature world premieres of The Phantom of the Opera, Mozart’s Requiem and masterworks choreographed by the greatest dance minds of the 20th century.
“We are thrilled to present the 2010-2011season to Oklahoma City. We are committed to taking our audience through a wonderfully diverse and dramatic selection of dances, both classic and modern, featuring the greatest and newest names in choreography as our dancers perform to the live music of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic,” said Robert Mills, OKC Ballet Artistic Director. “Oklahoma City has embraced our ballet with record attendance in our second and current season. That creative momentum now propels us to new dimensions of dance in our upcoming season.”
The first performance of the season brings The Phantom of the Opera to ballet just in time for the Halloween season. This original adaptation will be choreographed by the company’s Ballet Master Jacob Sparso, with an original score by Kermit Poling. The famous Gaston Leroux story was destined for dance. The story centers on Christine, a promising young ballerina in the Paris Opera Ballet, who catapults to stardom with the support of the mysterious, masked phantom whose twisted love takes a deadly and disastrous turn.
In December, the Oklahoma City Ballet returns with Robert Mills’ traditional version of the beloved Nutcracker. The 2009 performances of this holiday classic brought unparalleled critical reviews and audience attendance.
The company will bring two of the greatest dance masters of the 20th century and two new choreographic names of the 21st century to the Civic Center in February 2011 in Masters and Moderns. George Balanchine’s Valse Fantaisie was first created in 1967 on the New York City Ballet and is a whirl of perpetual motion. Created in 1981 on the Joffrey Ballet, Gerald Arpino’s Light Rain is a slick and energetic ensemble work capturing a youthful and exuberant spirit in contemporary movement. Oklahoma City Ballet will be the first company to dance Light Rain outside of the Joffrey Ballet.
Jessica Lang is one of ballet’s most sought after choreographers having created work for the American Ballet Theater and the Pennsylvania Ballet among many others. A new work from Alan Hineline finishes out this exciting evening of classic and modern repertory.
March 2010 brings the world premiere of Robert Mills’ Mozart’s Requiem. Three of Oklahoma City’s premiere arts organizations will come together for an unprecedented collaboration of dance, song and music. OKC Ballet will be joined by the OKC Philharmonic and Canterbury Choral Society to perform the powerful Requiem Mass in D Minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This program also includes Marius Petipa’s classical one act ballet Paquita Grand pas Classique
